14. Juli 2021 · The doyens of stoner rock are Masters Of Reality, Kyuss, Fu Manchu and Monster Magnet – the bands from which so many strands have grown over the past 15 years. Those are the bands that came rushing headlong with their deep grooves and riffs, puffed up by a blood-rush of progressive ideas.
- Kyuss. Los geht es 1987 unter dem Namen Katzenjammer, 1989 folgt die Umbenennung in Sons Of Kyuss. In die Geschichtsbücher gehen Sänger Garcia, Leadgitarrist Homme, Rhythmusgitarrist Oliveri und Schlagzeuger Brant Bjork aber als Kyuss ein.
- Fu Manchu. Eigentlich beginnen Fu Manchu als Hardcore-Punk-Band, zunächst unter dem Namen Virulence. Erst 1990 verpassen sich die Kalifornier ein neues Gewand, bis zu ihrem Debüt No One Rides For Free lassen sie sich noch einmal weitere vier Jahre Zeit.
- Monster Magnet. Nun reisen wir zum anderen Ende der USA, denn Monster Magnet legen ab 1989 in New Jersey los. Die Stoner-Rock-Szene dort ist übersichtlich, doch die Gruppe um Frontsau Dave Wyndorf überstrahlt alles.
