William Patrick Corgan Jr. (born March 17, 1967) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and professional wrestling promoter. He is best known as the co-founder, lead singer, primary songwriter, guitarist, and only constant member of alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins.
After the breakup of his gothic rock and metal band The Marked, singer and guitarist Billy Corgan left St. Petersburg, Florida returning to his native city of Chicago, where he took a job in a record store and had the idea to start a band called the Smashing Pumpkins.
