Ellen Naomi Cohen (September 19, 1941 – July 29, 1974), known professionally as Cass Elliot, was an American singer. She was also known as "Mama Cass", a name she reportedly disliked. Elliot was a member of the singing group the Mamas & the Papas. After the group broke up, she released five solo albums.
A pioneer pop-culture feminist and icon, she was one of the greatest singers of her generation, and the powerhouse voice behind “California Dreamin’”, “Monday Monday”, and “Dream a Little Dream of Me” – songs which defined a new musical era by blending the genres of folk, rock and pop into a trademark sound.
Cass Elliot was a singer and actress who rose to fame as a member of The Mamas and The Papas. She also had a successful solo career and appeared in several films and TV shows, including Pufnstuf (1970) and The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1973).
