23. Okt. 2019 · Local or base dialects are the oldest varieties of the overall linguistic system of German already existing for more than 1 millennium. They can be related to the languages of Germanic tribes (the language genealogical tree in Sonderegger 1979, p. 71; also see Schmidt 2007, pp. 51–63), and many dialects even nowadays carry their names (e.g., Alemannic, Bavarian, Franconian, or Low Saxon).
