THE WHO’s original drummer, DOUG SANDOM, has died, aged 89. The former bricklayer joined the band in 1962, when it was known as The Detours. He quit following a record label audition spat with Pete Townshend and was replaced by Keith Moon.
Sandom died yesterday (Feb. 27) at the age of 89, and was eulogized by Pete Townshend on the Who’s website. He wrote: “Just heard from his son that Doug, drummer with the early Who, passed away yesterday at the age of 89.
