In 2001, King was hospitalized for an illness during a tour of New Zealand, but that did not stop him from performing. In December of the same year, he toured Japan.

Earl King (February 7, 1934 – April 17, 2003) was an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter, most active in blues music. A composer of well known standards such as "Come On" (covered by Jimi Hendrix) and Professor Longhair's "Big Chief", he is an important figure in New Orleans R&B music.
Earl King was one of the great R&B singer/guitarists from those days, who had some big hits of his own, and a long career playing in his home town, but he also wrote songs that caught the spirit of the age. Slow, minor-key blues, many of them new to record, predominate. This CD re-issues the original 12 songs Storyville LP. "The Last Laugh" is a personal favorite.
