Eddie Floyd (born Eddie Lee Floyd, 25 June 1935, Montgomery, Alabama ) is a soul/R&B singer and songwriter, best known for his work on the Stax record label in the 1960s and 1970s. Floyd was born in Alabama, but grew up in Detroit, Michigan.
Eddie Floyd began making records in 1956, in Detroit as a member of the Falcons, but it was at Stax Records in Memphis that the singer-songwriter found his greatest success ten years later. He and guitarist Steve Cropper wrote the song “Knock on Wood” for Otis Redding to record, but Stax founder Jim Stewart insisted Floyd cut it himself.
Knock on Wood is the debut album of soul singer/songwriter Eddie Floyd, released in 1967 on Stax Records. [3] The album was recorded between July and December 1966 at Stax Recording Studio. It features his most well-known single, the title track, "Knock on Wood".
