The Free State of Bavaria. Bavaria is the largest state in the Federal Republic of Germany by area. It can look back on a history of more than 2,000 years with one of the oldest parliaments in Europe. Its coat of arms with the white and blue lozenges is well known all over the world.

The Bavarian Constitution is divided into four parts and includes a total of 188 articles. The first three articles stipulate that Bavaria is a free state, that the state authority shall emanate from the people and that Bavaria is a cultural and social state governed by the rule of law.
