Biography. Glynis was born- Glynis van der Riet- in Durban, South Africa. At the age of five she moved to Johannesburg with her mother after her parents divorced. Glynis grew up in the apartheid era. She was inspired by Helen Suzman, who was the only woman and the only liberal in parliament at the time, after Helen came to speak at her school.
