David Lawrence Geffen (born February 21, 1943) is an American filmmaker, record executive, and entrepreneur. He co-created Asylum Records in 1971 with Elliot Roberts, Geffen Records in 1980, DGC Records in 1990, and DreamWorks SKG in 1994.

"He's a bajillionaire record mogul, label owner, movie producer, etc.," Mary says, "but what's more interesting to me about it is how self made he truly was; the most ambitious person in the world."
He launched Asylum Records in 1971 by signing many of the discoveries he had made as a manager, including Jackson Browne, The Eagles, and Linda Ronstadt.
