Im Dezember 1991 wurde er ferner als Volkskünstler der Ukraine ausgezeichnet. 2012 wurde er mit dem Verdienstorden für das Vaterland 1. Klasse ausgezeichnet. Im April 2016 wurde ihm der Titel Held der Arbeit der Russischen Föderation verliehen. Zu seinen Ehren ist außerdem der Asteroid (3399) Kobzon benannt.

In one of his last shows, he performed in the rebel capital of Donetsk in October 2014, celebrating the inauguration of the rebel leader.
