August Diehl stammt aus einer Künstlerfamilie. Er ist der Sohn des Schauspielers Hans Diehl (* 1940); seine Mutter ist Kostümbildnerin. Sein jüngerer Bruder Jakob Diehl (* 1978) ist Komponist und Schauspieler. Diehl war von 1999 bis 2016 mit der Schauspielerin Julia Malik verheiratet.

Jakob Diehl wurde 1978 in Paris geboren. Von 2001 bis 2006 studierte er Komposition bei Friedrich Goldmann an der Universität der Künste Berlin. Seit 2002 schreibt er Konzertmusiken für unterschiedliche Besetzungen, sowie Film-, Theater- und Hörspielmusik. Jakob Diehl was born in Paris in 1978 and grew up in the South of France, Vienna, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Munich and Berlin. He first learned the violin, then the guitar, later piano and music theory, and studied composition with Mathias Hinke and at the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin with Friedrich Goldmann.
