25. Sept. 2016 · Jean Shepard was a pioneering female artist who recorded honky-tonk classics like "A Dear John Letter" and "A Satisfied Mind". She was a member of the Grand Ole Opry for 61 years and a founding member of the Association of Country Entertainers.
No mere “girl singer” with a band or part of a husband-wife team, Jean Shepard was one of the first women in country music to front her own tours, thus helping to pave the way for artists such as Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette in the 1960s and beyond.
25. Sept. 2016 · Jean Shepard was a pioneer of female solo acts in country music, with a long career and many hits. She died in 2016 at age 82, after joining the Grand Ole Opry in 1955 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
