The Major Oak is a large English oak (Quercus robur) near the village of Edwinstowe in the midst of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, England. According to local folklore, it was Robin Hood's shelter where he and his merry men slept.

The Major Oak is arguably the best known and certainly one of the biggest oak trees in Britain, with a canopy spread of 28 metres, a trunk circumference of 11 metres and an estimated weight of 23 tonnes. It’s not clear whether the Major Oak is one tree or multiple saplings that have fused together.

It is consistently voted as Britain’s favourite tree, is the largest oak tree in all of the UK and is famous all over the world! Not bad for an ancient tree sitting in the middle of a forest in the countryside.
