Vor 3 Tagen · I remember seeing Mel Torme at Jazz Alley in DC many years ago, and his drummer was so light and crisp that he could carry on a conversation with you while playing intricate patterns and fills. The trio (p,b,d) was amazingly facile at any speed while playing just loudly enough to fill the room with gentle reinforcement to aid dispersion.

Mel Tormé, in his book The Other Side of the Rainbow; With Judy Garland on the Dawn Patrol, explained that it was Garland who called him into her dressing room, played Streisand’s record of “Happy Days Are Here Again,” and sang a counter-melody of her signature song, “Get Happy.”

Some of the more recent versions were done by the Shirelles, Mel Torme, Louis Prima, Ella Fitzgerald, Louie Armstrong, Homer & Jethro and NRBQ. I found a version on Youtube though that combines a couple of my favorite things : Max Fleisher cartoons and Betty Boop.
