Play through to very nearly the end of World 1-1, making sure that you are Super Mario or better. Just ahead of the staircase at the end of the stage, there is a red Koopa pacing back and forth along some blocks. You can hit him from below to turn his shell upside down. Then you should grab it and carry it to the right. Hop onto one of the steps and continue to hold the shell until the Koopa escapes. When it does, you will take damage, but then the Koopa will begin pacing back and forth on a single block that serves as part of the staircase. Now you can jump and stomp the shell to send it flying. If you time it correctly, Mario will bounce repeatedly on the shell, which hits the block immediately to its right and perpetually rebounds. As Mario continues to bounce, points increase and quickly start to reward him with a 1-up for each bounce, making it easy to rack up a bunch of extra lives before time expires or you complete the stage.

Near the end of level 7-5, you'll find a Red Koopa. Not far away, near where you find the third star coin, there are two Bullet Bill cannons. You can throw the shell so that it lands between them and bounces back and forth, hitting Bullet Bill enemies as they emerge and soon netting you a bunch of extra lives.

Defeating Bowser and completing the game will give you one star icon next to your save file. Opening all pathways, and complete all levels in addition to their secret Red Flag exits will reward you with a second star. Collecting and spending all Star Coins will give you the third and final star.

This is probably the easiest and fastest way to get infinite 1-Ups. First, just go through World 2-4 as you normally would, and stop when you get to the staircase at the very end of the level. Stand on, preferably, the first (bottom) step of the stairs and wait for the Koopa to come. As soon as the Koopa lands on the second step, jump. If this is timed right, you will keep bouncing on the shell and start getting 1-Ups. If you mess up, just walk to the left a good distance and when you come back to the staircase the Red Koopa will be respawned.

After defeating Bowser and completing the game, the option to Save will be accessible through the Start Menu on the World Map at all times.
To unlock World 7, do one of the following:
•1. Defeat the World 5 Castle Boss as Mini Mario
Defeat the Mummipokey in the World 2 Castle as Mini Mario. (There is a Mini Mushroom handy that appears in a Question Block right after the checkpoint)

Clear a way to the lower (indestructible) floor, but leave the left and right edges in tact.
