The following is a timeline of the history of the city of Norwich, Norfolk, England. Prior to 12th century. 924 AD – Market active. [1] 1004 – Norwich sacked by Danes. [2] 1067 – Norwich Castle construction begins (approximate date). 1094 – Seat of East Anglian bishopric relocated to Norwich from Thetford. [3] 1096 – Norwich School established.
14. März 2021 · Norwich started as a small Anglo-Saxon settlement north of the River Wensum in Norfolk. In time it grew into a town, perhaps because of its situation on a river. (In those days it was much cheaper and easier to transport goods for sale by water than by land). It became known as North Wic (wic is an old word for port and Norwich was an inland port).
