Der französische Maler und Grafiker Odilon Redon (eigentlich geboren unter dem Namen Bertrand-Jean Redon) gilt als einer der Hauptvertreter des französischen Symbolismus. Er ist Zeitgenosse der Impressionisten steht aber nach seiner „schwarzen“ Phase der jüngeren Gruppe der Nabis Künstler nahe.

His prints explore haunted, fantastic, often macabre themes and foreshadowed the Surrealist and Dadaist movements.
