Stormtroopers Advance Under a Gas Attack (German: Sturmtruppe geht unter Gas vor) is an engraving in aquatint by Otto Dix representing German soldiers in combat during the First World War. It is the twelfth in the series of fifty engravings entitled The War, published in 1924.
In these later images, Dix portrays the destructive effects of war, including rotting corpses and bombed cities and landscapes, as well as its dehumanizing impact. In Storm Troops Advance under Gas Attack, soldiers are shown as menacing ghouls whose depravity is emphasized by terrifying gas masks.
Das Thema »Gasangriff« nimmt Dix in der zweiten Mappe mit dem Blatt »Sturmtruppe geht unter Gas vor« auf. Die dichte, durch die malerisch wirkende Schwärze der Aquatinta bestimmte Komposition, zeigt in ausschnitthafter Nahaufnahme den unheimlichen Vormarsch einiger mit Gasmasken ausgerüsteter deutscher Soldaten.
