Among Chaplin’s leading ladies, Paulette Goddard stands out for a number of reasons. She was the female lead in his last silent film ( Modern Times 1936) and in his first talkie ( The Great Dictator 1940).
P.G. begann ihre Karriere als Revuegirl bei Ziegfeld in New York und verschiedenen anderen amerikanischen Theatern. Ende der zwanziger Jahre engagierte sie Hal Roach für kleine Filmrollen nach Hollywood. U.a. sah man sie an der Seite des Komikerduos Stan Laurel und Oliver Hardy.
