Santiago de Chile liegt in Mittelchile, 90 km von der Pazifikküste entfernt am Austritt des Rio Mapocho im Großen Längstal (Valle Longitudinal). Eingerahmt wird Santiago im Westen von der Küstenkordillere und im Osten von der Zentralkordillere, deren Vulkane Höhen von mehr als 5000 m erreichen.
