The songs are largely ballad or mid-temp which is a bold choice and it works because the material delivers. Lyrics on the centerpiece numbers like "Sometimes Salvation" are both deeply personal and generic enough to be universal, and of course that is credit to Chris Robinson for delivering a vocal performance of the ages.
