The chief justice of Ghana is the highest-ranking judge of the Supreme Court of Ghana. The chief justice is also the head of the Judiciary of Ghana and is responsible for its administration and supervision. In order of state precedence, the chief justice is the fourth highest official in Ghana.
By her appointment, Justice Torkornoo becomes the third female Chief Justice of Ghana, after Justice Georgina Theodora Wood (2007-2017) and Justice Sophia A. B. Akuffo (2017-2020). The new Head of the Judiciary and the Judicial Service of Ghana, takes over from His Lordship Justice Anin Yeboah, who retired on May 24, 2023
She was nominated to the office of Chief Justice in April 2023 to replace Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah who retired as Chief Justice on May 24, 2023. She was sworn into office as the 15th Chief Justice of Ghana on 12 June 2023.

12. Juni 2023 · Accra, June 12, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sworn into office Justice Gertrude Araba Essaba Sackey Torkornoo as the new Chief Justice of Ghana. Justice Torkornoo, 60 years, succeeds Justice Kwesi Anin Yeboah who retired last May. She is the 15th Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana.
Kwasi Anin-Yeboah JSC (born 24 May 1953) is a Ghanaian judge and the immediate past Chief Justice of Ghana. In December 2019, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo nominated Justice Anin-Yeboah as the Chief Justice of Ghana.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sworn into office, Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo as the 15th Chief Justice of Ghana. Nominated by President Akufo-Addo in April 2023 for the position, Chief Justice Torkornoo replaces Justice Anin Yeboah, who was appointed on 7th January, 2020 and retired on Wednesday, 24th May, 2023.
