    The Clovers are an American rhythm and blues/doo-wop vocal group who became one of the biggest selling acts of the 1950s. They had a top 30 US hit in 1959 with the Leiber and Stoller song " Love Potion No. 9 ".

  3. The Clovers, known for Love Potion No.9, were formed in 1946 in Washington D.C. The original band members were Harold Lucas, Billy Shelton and Thomas Woods. A fourth member, John “Buddy” Bailey was added soon after, with the band peforming under the name of the Four Clovers.

When John “Buddy” Bailey came on board as lead, Harold moved over to baritone. Hal wanted to give his music career a lucky start so he named the group the Four Clovers.
