Geoffrey Rudolph Elton. Sir Geoffrey Rudolph Elton (* 17. August 1921 in Tübingen; † 4. Dezember 1994 in Cambridge, England; geboren als Gottfried Rudolf Ehrenberg) war ein deutschstämmiger britischer Historiker. Am 9. Juli 1536 wurde der Titel Baron Cromwell, of Wimbledon in the County of Surrey, durch Letters Patent für den englischen Staatsmann Thomas Cromwell geschaffen. Am 17. April 1540 wurde er zudem der Titel Earl of Essex verliehen. Im Juli 1540 wurde er wegen Hochverrats geächtet, ihm seine Titel aberkannt und er hingerichtet.

He was a confidential adviser to Thomas, Cardinal Wolsey , before entering Parliament (1529), where his abilities attracted the king’s notice.
