Leben und Schaffen. Tim Ries stammte aus einer musikalischen Familie aus der Gegend um Detroit. Sein Vater Jack Ries war ein professioneller Trompeter, seine Mutter spielte Piano und seine drei Schwestern sangen und spielten ebenfalls Klavier. [2] . In jungen Jahren wurde er 1971 Mitglied der „Michigan All State Band“ in Ann Arbor.
Tim Ries came from a musical family in Tecumseh, Michigan, about 70 miles from Detroit. His father Jack Ries (né Jack Leonard Ries; 1924–1990) was a professional trumpet player; his mother, Edith Viola (née O'Neil; 1925–2006), played piano; and his three sisters sang and also played the piano.
Tim was a member of the Prism Saxophone Quartet from 1993-2003. He has released 9 CDs as a leader. His last two discs, Tim Ries Quintet and Tim Ries Quintet Vol II, are live perfomances at Smalls Jazz Club.
