The UMD Department of Social work has two fully accredited programs: the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW). Both programs emphasize social justice and culturally responsive practice. Graduates leave with a broad base of skills that can be applied to a range of settings.
We prepare you for the full range of social work practice. The UMD Department of Social Work offers an Advanced Generalist program that prepares students for a wide range of social work roles from therapist and case manager to community organizer and administrator.
Admission to the program is competitive; early applications are strongly encouraged. Prospective transfer students must first be admitted to UMD (and have paid all fees) before applying to the BSW major and have transcripts submitted for review. To apply to UMD, please visit the Admissions website.
The UMD Department of Social Work offers Advanced Generalist and Generalist programs that will prepare you for a wide range of social work roles. Both programs are ideally suited for both urban and rural social work, and include a special focus on American Indian social services.
