14. Apr. 2023 · If we say that a piece of music is in the key of D, this means a few things: The key signature will have two sharps, these being F sharp and C sharp! The tonic (or home note) of the piece will be D! This note will sound the most stable in the whole piece.
Chord identification. The D major chord I is the D major chord, and contains the notes D, F#, and A. This tonic chord's root / starting note is the 1st note (or scale degree) of the D major scale.
