Der kleine Ort mit rund 6000 Einwohnern in den Catskills, einem New Yorker Naherholungsgebiet, war zwar Namensgeber und spiritueller Pate des legendären Festivals, die Musikparty selbst aber fand rund eine Autostunde südwestlich im noch etwas kleineren Örtchen Bethel statt.
