The Au Go Go’s star band was the Blues Project, a group on the cutting edge of improvisational, classical, blues and jazz. Danny Kalb was the Project’s lead guitarist and vocalist; Al Kooper was the keyboardist and vocalist; Steve Katz was its guitarist and vocalist; There was Andy Kulberg on bass and flute.
The Blues Project is alive and well, with Roy Blumenfeld leading a new powerful lineup that also includes a band of young and talented “pupils”: Chris Bergson and Mark Newman on guitars, Jesse Williams or Ivan Bodely on bass depending on availability and Ken Clark on keyboards and vocals.
They are most remembered as one of the most artful practitioners of pop music, influenced as it was by folk, blues, rhythm & blues, jazz and the pop music of the day. On February 14, 2023, the group, still led by Steve Katz and Roy Blumenfeld, released a new collection of tunes, called "Evolution". Sites:
