- I Can’t Explain. Noch zu Schulzeiten, etwa im Jahr 1959, gründete Roger Daltrey seine erste Band und nannte sie The Detours. Nach und nach stießen John Entwistle und Pete Townshend dazu.
- Substitute. Ein geniales Stück aus der Frühphase von The Who ist auch Substitute, eine Single aus dem Jahr 1966, die später auch auf der Compilation Meaty, Beaty, Big And Bouncy (1971) veröffentlicht wurde.
- A Quick One, While He’s Away. Nach all den Pop-Singles stand Pete Townshend irgendwann der Sinn nach etwas anderem, nach mehr, nach einer größeren kreativen Herausforderung.
