Anthony Braxton (born June 4, 1945) is an American experimental composer, educator, music theorist, improviser and multi-instrumentalist who is best known for playing saxophones, particularly the alto. [1] Braxton grew up on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, and was a key early member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians.
Influential experimental composer and saxophonist. Member of the AACM where he was influenced by mentors Muhal Richard Abrams and Roscoe Mitchell and friends Joseph Jarman, Wadada Leo Smith and Leroy Jenkins, among others. In 1969 Braxton recorded For Alto, the first full-length album for unaccompanied saxophone.

Anthony Braxton is an American composer and woodwind improviser, one of the most prolific artists in free jazz. Braxton, who named John Coltrane, Warne Marsh, and Paul Desmond among his inspirations, began playing alto saxophone in his teens and continued to play in a U.S. Army band.
