Chester Burton „Chet“ Atkins (* 20. Juni 1924 in Luttrell, Union County, Tennessee; † 30. Chester Burton Atkins (June 20, 1924 – June 30, 2001), also known as " Mr. Guitar " and " The Country Gentleman ", was an American musician who, along with Owen Bradley and Bob Ferguson, helped create the Nashville sound, the country music style which expanded its appeal to adult pop music fans.
He was 77. Mr. Atkins had battled cancer for several years, undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumor in June 1997, and had a bout with colon cancer in 1970's, The Associated Press reported.
