The University of Münster was enlarged to become the Prussian State University of Westphalia. On 18 October, the Faculties of Law and Medicine were closed. The university was converted to an “Institution of Higher Learning” (academy) with two faculties. Prussia’s first school of surgery opened in Münster in 1821.
