André Masson war ein französischer Maler, Grafiker und Bildhauer, der als einer der ersten Surrealisten im Paris der 1920er und 1930er Jahre eine lyrisch-spontane abstrakte Malweise entwickelte. Er war ein enger Freund von Michel Leiris und Georges Bataille und wirkte an der Zeitschrift Acéphale mit. Er illustrierte auch erotische Romane und schuf Skulpturen, Bühnenbilder und Buchillustrationen.
