Pulitzer Prize. Henry Threadgill (born February 15, 1944, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.) is an American improviser, composer, and bandleader, an important figure in free jazz in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Threadgill studied at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and Governors State University, University Park, Illinois.
Since the 1960s, 2021 NEA Jazz Master Henry Threadgill has been on the leading edge of avant-garde jazz with his original compositions. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2016, one of only three jazz artists to win the prestigious award.
