Jagged Little Pill is the third studio album by Canadian-American singer Alanis Morissette, released on June 13, 1995, through Maverick and her first album to be released worldwide. It marked a stylistic departure from the dance-pop sound of her first two albums, Alanis (1991) and Now Is the Time (1992).
The two wrote and recorded Morissette's first internationally released album, Jagged Little Pill, and by the spring of 1995, she had signed a deal with Maverick Records. In the same year she learned how to play guitar. According to manager Welch, every label they approached, apart from Maverick, declined to sign Morissette.
Party Boy. “Alanis” marks the debut studio album by Alanis Morissette, initially released exclusively in Canada on April 16, 1991, under MCA Records Canada. Produced in collaboration with Leslie Howe, who later worked on her sophomore effort “Now Is the Time” (1992), this album swiftly earned platinum certification.
At age 14 Morissette signed a song-publishing deal that led to two dance-pop albums, Alanis (1991), which sold at least 100,000 copies and earned her Canada’s Juno Award for most promising female vocalist of the year, and Now Is the Time (1992), which sold more than 50,000 copies.
When Morissette first started out, she was signed as a teenager to MCA Records in Canada. Her first two albums featured dance pop music. At one point, Morissette even toured with Vanilla Ice. When appearing on The Howard Stern Show in 2015, Morissette spoke about her transformation from dance pop to alternative rock.
Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard wrote "Head over Feet", one of the several tracks they collaborated on for her breakthrough album, Jagged Little Pill (1995). Ballard met Alanis on March 8, 1994, after his publishing company matched them up.
(The clarification regarding the number of albums Alanis has released is because her first two albums were only released in Canada, whereas everything from 'Jagged Little Pill' onwards was released worldwide.)
