  7. Kenny Clarke is a jazz pioneer who led the modern jazz era with his unique drum style and rhythmic palette. He was a leader of the bebop movement and a co-founder of the Clarke-Boland Big Band. He worked with many jazz greats, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and Charlie Christian. He received the NEA Jazz Master Fellowship in 1983.
