Nassau William Senior (1790–1864), British economist, was the eldest son of the vicar of Durnford in Wiltshire. He was educated at Eton and at Magdalen College, Oxford. At Oxford he met Richard Whateley (later archbishop of Dublin), a rugged opponent of tradition who became Senior’s lifelong friend and exerted considerable influence on him.
