Für die Fernsehserie Las Vegas nahm sie 2005 auch einen eigenen Song mit dem Titel Whipped auf. 2008 begann sie dann eine richtige Solokarriere. Mit der Single Crying Blood machte sie den Anfang und bekam auf Anhieb sehr positive Kritiken. Unter anderem wurde sie in die BBC-Liste Sound of 2009 auf Platz 7 der hoffnungsvollsten Talente aufgenommen.

En attendant la sortie de cet album, en 2005, elle commercialise aux États-Unis un EP contenant les titres Nobody Loves Me, Dangerous Love, Whipped, Calling Out Your Name, et Back To The Music. The "radical power in the role of the provocateur", as Brown puts it, was one of the motives for the album. Additionally, Brown provided an in-depth look into "what it means to be Black in modern Britain" in an interview with Line of Best Fit. The second single "Twisted" was released on 9 June 2023.
Vanessa Brown was born in Northampton, England. She is the eldest of six siblings; her mother is Jamaican and her father is Puerto Rican. [1] She attended Overstone Park School near Northampton, which her parents own and work in. She then went to Kingsthorpe Upper School, now Kingsthorpe Community College, and sat her A-levels a year early.
